Tips for converting your home to natural gas:
- Service line installation - MGU standard natural gas main connection fee is $200.00. A portion of the service line cost is included in this fee. If the service line allowance for your conditions exceeds the connection fee, you will be responsible for additional costs. Contact MGU at 800-401-6402 to learn about your options.
- Excess flow valve - MGU installs an excess flow valve (EFV) on all new residential gas service lines. This valve automatically limits the flow of natural gas if a service line is cut.
- Selecting a contractor - To upgrade your piping and equipment, choose a qualified contractor who follows all code requirements when switching to natural gas.
- Heating equipment estimates - We recommend getting two or three quotes for furnace conversion or possible replacement. There are rebates to install a high efficiency heating system.
